Default Carebear Club [wuv] Prot Booner Premade Video

This video was originally created to showcase the wuv booner premade and promote it being voted in by the community as one of the premades submitted by the "top" 20 guilds on the ladder. Due to a lack of submissions it is unclear Arena Net will be including this as a premade anytime soon. However, we have heard rumors that all submitted premades will be included at some point which would be great. The video is one part demo, one part instructional. At the very least I hope it's fun to watch. This is my first video editing ever done so I hope you enjoy it!

You can download the video off of filefront at the link below:

Almost identical to the boon prot I currently use, both in random arena and GvG. I hope it's included. It's a very useful, basic build that will fit into almost any team.

Yep ... it's a really easy to use and gives you access to the best single energy management skill in the game (OoB). If you're making modifications for TA then I think the most expendable skill is shielding hands. You can pretty much sub in whatever you want for that slot (e.g., CoP).

When I first started playing boon prot, I was very skeptical and convinced that it was the most ridiculous idea I'd ever seen. I quickly came around. OoB is an amazing energy engine and to keep it up, I like to use the 20% recharge wand and the 20/20 idol. And yes, I usually use CoP rather than shielding hands. I'm also fond of prot spirit, but sig of devotion is nice for a free heal. (Horrid cast time makes it almost useless for anything other than topping off against a non-spike team though. It IS a free top-off heal, though.)

Lol! YAY! I just noticed that I no longer have Rocinante as my underblurb!

Well done video Sarus. I think the text explanations help a lot over what we usually see in videos - people learn what to do, when, and why that way.

Also Gaile was quoted in LA saying that due to lack of submissions they were looking to include all of the premades that were submitted - so hopefully this will be up before long!

Awesome, downloading now.

The [wuv] boon prot is basicly one skill off what I use; I usually take Prot Spirit instead of Shielding Hands. That's a fairly trivial change though, with Prot Spirit only really being neccasary in 8 vs 8. It is probably the most versatile and durable monk build. Perfect for arena, and it even works very well in GvG.

Great work Sarus, and anyone else who helped. Hope to see this on the list of premades ingame soon.

Excellent video, very well done! The explanations as Billiard said definitely contribute a great deal to the explanation of how to play it.

We use a very similar build in gvg except instead of signet of devotion and shielding, substitue protective spirit and contemplation of purity. I personally like the contemplation as its great for keeping yourself out of migraine or backfire trouble very easily which makes it easier to keep everyone else out of hex trouble; good luck interrupting a 1/4 second cast. I also don't terribly like shielding hands because of the long cooldown, which means I either use it when I shouldn't and have wasted it, or I am too stingy about using it and I almost never cast it.

The music choices for the video were also great, I watched it a couple times just to jam to it and watch you hit the holy veil so quickly

Quite nice, especially the music on the sequence with the speed-buffless warrior. I use exactly the same thing, except I don't like stepping into Random Arena without CoP on my bar, so Shielding Hands is out. Anyway, hopes this makes it in game. There needs to be a good monk premade, and this fits the bill nicely.

Also, what was in your equip slots? Looked like one was a Blood Staff, assuming two is +15, -1 items, but what are the other two?

Great video!

Any more of this kind available? I'm new to the game and these kinds of lessons actually improve my gameplay

Greetings,

We're working on a video for our necro premade though I'm not sure when that'll get done.

Very nice video, great work Team-iQ.

One question. At one point on the priest map the monk is being chased by two warriors, a sword and an axe warrior and health is low. First action is RoF after getting off the ice, then a guardian. Given that most sword warriors will be carrying Gash if they have Sever Artery, would it be judgement call to cast Mend Ailment to remove the bleeding instead of RoF (given that the health bar was rather low and a deep wound would've meant a quick death)? Just wondering how crucial that .5 second difference in cast times would make in that situation from your point of view.

I found the video itself a bit flashy. No effort was spared to make sure I knew that no effort was spared, and it was kinda tough for me to extract the info you wished to impart. Though I have to say that the part about the warriors minus speed boosts was <3

All that said, the build itself is cool. I think it fits the purpose of a premade really well: good, so that a new player gets a general idea of what constitutes effective build and play strategy, but not quite perfect, to encourage them to think about how they can customize it for their style. I think that's kind of what they were going for with the original premades, but instead of merely sub-optimal builds you have things which are... oh, how shall I put this... abominations from the heavens.

Anyway, mainly what I wanted to say is this...

This is quality!

Made me cry with laughter and actually tought me a few tricks. I'd never used holy veil before, as wasn't too sure how to use it. Now I do.

The weapon switch I'd heard of before but never put it into practice. Again, now I know. I'm well on the way to becoming a true boon prot pro.

The one thing I do struggle with is when a well timed signet of humility is cast on me. This can be a real punisher when you're gasping for energy. Although coming across a good mes in RA or TA is quite rare. They usually just try and lump a few backfires on you and even the odd empathy. lol

Cheers.
